Legendary Sunday

Traditionally, I would right all about football on a Sunday evening....and I will later, but one has to recognize what Eldred did this weekend first. There was a 60 scored this week in the final FedEx Cup Event....yet it wasn't even a headline. Why?? (because US media whores suck)
Why?? Because Tiger Woods' accomplishments, career to date, and most assuredly moving forward is so far beyond the human understanding of greatness it is not near comprehensible (not sure that is even a word, but we're going with it today). Tiger Woods is the best athlete the world has ever seen, and in my lifetime, will ever see. What he does with a set of golf clubs is not fair to the rest of the field week in and week out.....if it isn't his overpowering 325+ yard drives, stinging 265 yard 3 irons safely in the middle of the fairway on tight courses, or his uncanny putting as witnessed this weekend.
Rarely do I EVER, EVER leave the comfort and excitement of the Sunday Ticket Channels, but today it had to be done. I completely enjoy knowing that I am able to witness the greatest athlete of ALL TIME...and better yet, that I have seen him in person twice (and plan to again in the near future, next February at Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pro-Am). Props to Mr. Woods....his place in history is set, I just hope to have the privilege to see how it continues to grow for years to come (and that my kids are able to see it in person as well).
Although I am biased, I won't spend too much time on it....but another legend, closer to my home town and my heart is Bret Favre. Although a big deal wasn't made of it....Bret became the winning-est QB in NFL history today. And, he did it well with a nice 3 TD game and better yet with a win. Us Packer fans know that the day will come when Bret leaves us....but when he does choose to walk away, he will do so the biggest winner in history (at least until Manning passes him up). Soon he will have the TD record too (again, it will only stand until Manning is done), and solidify his place with the greatest ever....and arguably atop the list (I never go that far).
PS: If you didn't see the FG that Sebastien Janikowski missed today from 53 yards away....find it on you tube. The guy hit the TOP of the pole from 52 yards away in Denver. Granted, mile high and all that crap....BUT JESUS....it would have been a legit 75 yarder.....amazing even for a Polish field goal kicker....kinda ironic huh?
Until next time...enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Skogen-

Glad to see you back on the blogger seen you were missed. Just wanted to make a couple of comments on a few things you have recently wrote about. First thing you are dead on about the show Tiger Woods put on in the Fed Ex Cup. First of all you didnt even mention he skipped one of the events and still blew away the competition. His play the last month or two has been amazing. I believe he is going for his 9th player of the year award which is amazing. However I dont know if I am ready to call him the greatest athlete of all time. I agree he is dominating in a way I have never seen before. However, Roger Federer is doing similar things on the court, and yet he doesnt get mentioned in the same breath as tiger. As Federer blows by Sampras' record I hope he gets some credit he deserves. I would have to also say Michael Jordan should also deserve some mention as the best athlete of our time.

Onto Brett. I agree his accomplishment last weekend was a great one. The most wins out of any starting QB, is not only a testament to being able to stay healthy and have a long career, but to play at such a top notch with probably only one other hall of famer ever to play with him in Reggie White. Though i am not sure how many hall of famers John Elway played with. To me this is a bigger record than the total touchdowns but it wont get the same type of coverage. I am not a Packer or Brett fan, but he has firmly cemented himself as an all time top 3 qb, but that may not last long if Brady and Manning keep this up. Who knows how many rings Brady will have and how many records Manning will, but they will be on the short list of best ever.

Onto the race card, I could not share the same sentiment with you anymore. This is so sickening, coming from a real hick town, I have seen all types of racism, but I have also seen a fair amount of this. I cannot stand this, and to say that black quarterbacks are under more scrutiny than anyone else is ridiculous. Look at what Peyton Manning had to go through until he one the big game, or the scrutiny that Marino had to endure never winning the big game. If anything the Belicheat incident showed us is that in the NFL, these teams and players will go to absolutely any means possible to win. That is the bottom line, the great ones are the ones that where rings, and the rest will always have the "yeah but" next to there name. So Donovan, next time you think you are being picked on because you are a black qb, check where you are in the standings, because I gurantee he will never feel that way when he is sitting in first place. However he starts 0-2 and loses 3 consecutive NFC championship games, he is taking heat because he is black. No it assure you it is because you lost, and losers and cheaters in all of sports are the ones that take the heat. Next you will hear Lebron James come out and say, Steve Nash doesnt take the same heat as i do because he is white and I am black. Come on, this is a competitive sport played at the highest level, the only color any one cares about is green, and you make that green by winning.
